AMANDA MALINDA SCHRUM
Amanda, daughter of Marx and Christina (Vehrs) Schrum, was born November 30,
1890, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended country schools
near her home. Amanda continued to live with her parents on a farm until they
moved into Manning in 1923. She worked in homes of various people in Manning
until 1943 when she stayed home to care for her mother until her mother's death in 1945.
In 1975 Amanda moved into the Elm Crest Apartments where she continued in good health until she broke her leg and entered the Manning General Hospital on October 21, 1985. She remained in the hospital until December 24, 1985, when she moved into the Jefferson Manor Nursing Home, Jefferson, Iowa where she died on Friday, January 3, 1986, at the age of 95 years, 1 month, and 4 days.
Amanda was baptized and confirmed in 1927 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning where she continued to be a faithful member until her death.
Amanda was preceded in death by her parents; and by the following brothers and sisters: Dorothea in infancy while her parents still lived in Germany; Harry and Henry in infancy; Annie Ewoldt; Mary Stammer; Herman Schrum; William Schrum; Emma Schroeder; and Hugo Schrum.
Amanda is survived by one brother, Gus Schrum, of Manilla; by one sister, Alvina Schroeder, of Flandreau, South Dakota; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
