Funeral services for Amanda Pfoltner will be held Thursday, February 12, 1981, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Donald Jones of the United Methodist Church in Manning officiating. Vocalist will be Judy Joens & organist, Bonita Hagedorn. Interment will be in Manning Cemetery with Larry Rix, John Miller, Merlin Struve, Leroy Mundt, Kenneth Fogleman, and Gene Schatz as casketbearers.
Amanda Martha, the only child of August and Anna (Opperman) Gebhardt, was born on February 10, 1889, at Aspinwall, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended rural schools in the Aspinwall area.
On January 15, 1908, she was united in marriage with Chris Pfoltner at Manning, Iowa. They farmed near Manning until moving into town in 1918. After living in town for some time, they again returned to the farm for several years.
In 1950, Chris passed away. Amanda continued to live in Manning after her husband's death, eventually moving to the Terrace Apartments and later the Manning Plaza. She has been in long term care at the Manning General Hospital since an illness about nine months ago. She died there on Sunday, February 8, 1981, at the age of 91 years, 11 months, 28 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chris, and their only son in infancy.
She is survived by a nephew they raised as their own son, George Pfoltner, and his wife, Jean of Manning; two grandnephews, David Pfoltner and wife Donna & children, Christopher & Jennifer of Sheridan, Illinois, and Brian Pfoltner, Sioux City, Iowa: one grandniece, Patricia Dinklage and her husband James, of Pender, Nebraska; and other relatives and friends.
