Obituary for Alvina "Grandma Lou Pearson

Alvina M. "Grandma Lou" Pearson, 102, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Georgian Court in Oskaloosa. She was born Saturday, April 21, 1900, at Manning, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Kortum) Dammann. She went to work for, The Reliable, then the Continental Overall Factory and later at Spurgeons in Oskaloosa. Later in life she worked for Alfred (Ace) and Eunice Toll, at their home in University Park. She lived in Oskaloosa for over seventy years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 70 years and held offices on both the state and local levels; she was also the Chairman of the Girls State Selection for many years.

Lou is survived by her 2 daughters and their husbands: Margaret and Floyd White of Oskaloosa, and Betty and Pete Cuffe of Oskaloosa; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Goldie Maney of Portland, Oregan; and a special friend: Patty Ryan of Oskaloosa.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: Lester Dammann; and 2 sisters: Hazel Duede and Rosie Schroeder.

The body has been cremated and there are no services planned. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to Georgian Court in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
