Alvin Schilling
Alvin John, son of John and Emma (Schroeder) Schilling, was born August 4, 1924, in Aspinwall, Iowa. After graduating from the eighth grade in Aspinwall, he began working as a farm hand for several area farmers.

In 1945 Alvin began work for the Milwaukee Railroad on the Aspinwall section crew. He purchased a portable feed grinder in 1953 and operated it for a number of years in the Aspinwall area, before going to work for Frank Ehrichs at the Aspinwall stockyards. Alvin began farming his brother Robert's farm 2.5 miles south of Aspinwall in 1962. Before and during his retirement from farming, Alvin worked for Dr. Rexanne Struve at Veterinary Associates until his health began to fail. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed driving around the country and caring for animals. Alvin also enjoyed traveling to Tiskilwa, Illinois to visit with Scott and Valerie Jensen.

Alvin became a resident of the Manning Plaza nursing home in June of 2002. After a short illness Alvin died at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa, on Monday, February 14, 2005, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 10 days.
