Alice Whitcher

Mrs. Alice Adeline Whitcher, 75 years of age, passed away early today, June 10, 1932, at her home at 11006 Hesby Street, North Hollywood. She was a native of Augusta, Iowa, born July 2, 1849, daughter of Alice A. Moon, but came to California with her husband 56 years ago, in a covered wagon. Most of those years were spent in the San Fernando Valley, although when they first arrived, there were but few settlements.

Mr. Whitcher was an early stage coach driver, and his family frequently moved. They had been living at their present address for the past two and a half years. Besides her husband, Selden E. Whitcher, the deceased leaves five daughters, Mrs. Emma Baldridge of Los Angeles; Mrs. Amelia Newman of Colorado; Mrs. Flora Pugh of Soledad; Mrs. Edna Klindt of Iowa; Mrs. Florence Bancroft of North Hollywood; and three sons, William C., of Iowa, John L. and Reuben H. of Los Angeles.
Funeral arrangements are being made by A.C. Fillbach.
Burial is at the Gonzales Cemetery, Gonzales, California.

Mrs. Alice Adeline Whitcher, 75 years of age, who came to California 56 years ago in a covered wagon, died early today at her home at 11006 Hesby Street, North Hollywood. Her husband, who survives her, was an early stagecoach driver.

Mrs. Whitcher also leaves five daughters, Mrs. Emma Baldridge of Los Angeles, Mrs. Amelia Newman of Colorado, Mrs. Flora Pugh of Soledad, Mrs. Edna Klindt of Iowa, Mrs. Florence Bancroft of North Hollywood; and three sons, William C. of Iowa and John L. and Reuben H. of Los Angeles. Funeral arrangements are being made by the Burbank Undertaking Company.

Former Gonzales Pioneer Woman Dies in Hollywood
News of the death of Mrs. Alice Adeline Whitcher, which occurred last Friday morning in north Hollywood, was received by friends today. Mrs. Whitcher was the wife of Captain Selden E. Whitcher, Civil War Veteran and former resident of Gonzales and Soledad, as well as a sister of the late Mrs. Nancy Olliah Whitcher, of Gonzales, who died in a Salinas hospital last Wednesday. The funeral of Mrs. Whitcher will be held in Gonzales, Thursday, it was announced, following services in the Gonzales Community Church.
