Had Enjoyed Best of Health Until a Few Months Ago.
Was Well Known Here
The death of Adolph Rohde at the Carroll hospital Thursday, caused profound sorrow among his large circle of friends and acquaintances in this community. Mr. Rohde apparently had enjoyed the best of health, until some months ago when his trouble began. When consulting physicians they pronounced his trouble the most serious of nature and an operation was decided upon, which was performed by Dr. Smith of Manning and Dr. Shirley of Carroll at the Carroll hospital last Monday, at which time it was found that his case was inoperable. His complications had advanced too far, resulting in death after a lingering until Thursday afternoon when death released him from his intense suffering.
Adolph Rohde was born in Hannover, Germany, February 4th, 1891. When but a child of one year he came with his parents to America near Vail, Iowa. Residing there and several other places in Crawford County during his boyhood days, he met his life mate, Miss Meta Harder in Denison and their marriage was, performed by the Rev. Freese of Denison on March 10, 1914. Two sons were born to this union, both children passing away in infancy. The couple moved a few years ago to their place in Washington Township, Carroll County, where they resided the time of his death. He passed away Thursday, June 6th, at the age of 38 years, 4 months, and 2 days. His main trouble was cancer of the stomach.
He leaves to mourn his death, his faithful wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde of Spencer, Iowa; a brother, Claude Rohde of Washington Township, Carroll County; his parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Harder of Woodbury County, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held at the home and in Denison conducted by the Reverend Freese of Denison, and interment was made at the Denison Cemetery, under a large attendance of sorrowing neighbors and friends.
The deceased was a man of sterling qualities, highly respected by his many friends and relatives, and he will be greatly missed. The Monitor joins the community in expressing deep sympathy to the bereaved wife and parents in their hour of sorrow.
