Aaron McCuen

A double funeral service was conducted Saturday afternoon, January 12, 1952, at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Harlan, Iowa, for Aaron McCuen of Harlan and his son-in-law, James P. Nelson, of Lodi, California.

McCuen's son-in-law, James died Monday, the day before his father-in-law died, so his funeral was held at the same time.

Rev. S.S. Kaldahl, pastor of the Lutheran Church at Missouri Valley, former pastor of Mr. McCuen, also brought a message at the service Rev. Kaldahl conducted the grave side services for Mr. McCuen whose body was laid to rest in the Manning Cemetery.

Aaron McCuen was born August 16, 1866, at Monroe, Jasper County, Iowa. He was the son of George and Margaret (Stine) McCuen, and one of 12 children, who have all preceded him in death.

As a small boy at the age of two he came with his parents to Audubon County in Lincoln Township. Here he grew to manhood and continued to live.

He was united in marriage to Frankie Sisson, December 25, 1889. To this union were born six children, of who two sons, Arthur and Walter, preceded their father in death.

After his marriage Mr. McCuen farmed in Audubon County, with the exception of one year in Shelby County, until 1934, when he and his wife retired in Harlan. His wife passed away in 1942, and since the close of World War II his son Charles has made his home with him.

His health gradually failed the last couple of years, and the last month of his life were spent with his daughter, Mrs. Hazel Lund, here in Harlan, where he passed away January 8, 1952. He reached the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 2 days.

He is survived by two sons, Charles of Harlan and Roy of Los Angeles, California; two daughters, Mrs. Olive Nelson of Lodi, California and Mrs. Hazel Lund of Harlan; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
