Death came to A.H. Mohr, 65, Arcadia businessman and Store owner for 34 years, at his home here Wednesday evening, May 22, 1944, at 7:20.
Mr. Mohr had been ill for five months and critically ill of a complication of ailments for the last month of his life.
Mr. Mohr had been very active in the life of the community, being treasurer of the school board and city clerk at the time of his death. He had previously served on the school board and was treasurer of the Setting Sun Lodge of West Side for several years resigning this post in 1939.
He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons No. 78 Carroll, the, Miriam Chapter O.E.S. West Side the Setting Sun Lodge, West Side, the Woodmen of the World and the Modern Woodmen.
Mr. Mohr was born in Wheatland, Iowa, April 27, 1875, son of Detlef H. and Louise (Lahann) Mohr. When he was but four months old the family moved to Arcadia where he has lived all his life with the exception of the year 1920 which he Spent in Texas.
On December 14, 1899, he was married to Emma Eckholdt at Arcadia, who with their two sons Marcellus of Arcadia and David of Des Moines, survive him. He is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Emma Pruter of Nevada, Ia.; Mrs. Alvin Clausen, of Ogden, and, Mrs. Laura Kaiser of Herring; two brothers, E.C. Mohr of Arcadia, and Will Mohr of Minneapolis, Minn. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Betsy daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marcellus Mohr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, his father passing away August 19, 1906, and his mother March 12, 1929. The sister, Mrs. Pauline Strauss of Auburn died in October 1936.
Since 1906 when his father died, Mr. Mohr had been the proprietor of the A. H. Mohr general store in Arcadia, operating it for ten years in partnership with his cousin, Adolph Lahann and since that time managing the store himself.
Funeral services were held at the Mohr residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. McDaniel of Carroll in charge. Two hymns, "Beautiful Isle", and "Rock of Ages" were sung by Mr. Paul Texbon (sp?) accompanied by Mrs. Harold Babcock.
Burial was made in, the Arcadia cemetery with final Masonic rites. Pallbearers were Ed Henning, John Rix, Harry Frank, Henry Peters, Jess Hill, and Charley Mielk.
Out-of-town friends and relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wieland and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ruffers, Strykes, .............. incomplete.
