Manning Monitor December 1, 1881

McQuaid—Died on Tuesday, November 15, 1881, at Arcadia, Iowa. Mr. A.C. McQuaid, brother of John L. McQuaid, of Manning.

Mr. McQuaid was born in Knox Co Ia, July 8, 1810, and served his Country faithfully during the late war in Company K of the 107, Illinois Volunteers.

In 1875 he came to Carroll Co. and has since made his home, with his brother John. Two years since his health began to fail, but he still continued to work. In August last he came to Manning to build a store room for his brother and remained here until a few days before his death. Feeling that his health was going and that he needed care, he returned to Arcadia to adjust his business and secure medical treatment. He stopped with Mr. and Mrs. John Gouldrey where his death occurred 10 minutes before three o'clock a.m. on the day named, and suddenly while talking to friends who were watching with him. His disease was dropsy of the heart. The funeral services took place from the Presbyterian Church and were conducted by Rev. Mr. Elliot. His body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Arcadia. He died among his friends and all was done that could be done to make him comfortable in his last illness.
