John Henry Andresen

John H. Andresen was born August 30, 1879, in Holstein, Germany. He came to America with his parents locating in Carroll County. After his marriage to Marie Witt February 11, 1903, he moved to a farm north of Irwin where the family lived for 33 years. They retired to Manning in 1937. Mrs. Andresen died in 1946. Mr. Andresen died in the Manning hospital February 9, 1952, after having been hospitalized, he had been ill for the past 4 1/2 years.

Survivors are one son, Lester of Manning, and three daughters, Mrs. Leona Wiese of Irwin, Mrs. Velma Knudsen of Vail, Mrs. Maurine Barten of Manning and eight grandchildren. Other survivors are three brothers; Will of Sioux City, Gus of Arion and Julius of Harlan.

Funeral services were held from the Ohde Funeral Home at Manning February 12 with Pastor John M. Ansorge of the Zion Lutheran Church in charge.
Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.


John Andresen Is Taken by Death
John Andresen, 72, died at the Manning General hospital about 2 a.m. today. He was a retired farmer.

Funeral services will be held here at 2 p. m. Tuesday.

Born August 30, 1879, in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, Mr. Andresen was a baby when his parents came to the United States and settled on a farm near Arcadia.

He was married to Marie Witt of Arcadia. The couple established their home on a farm near Irwin, where they lived until 1937. At that time, they bought a home in Manning and moved into the property. Mrs. Andresen died in 1946.

Surviving are four children: Lester, near Manning; Mrs. Carl (Leona) Wiese, Irwin; Mrs. Mayer (Velma) Knudsen, near Manning, and Mrs. Clarence (Maurine) Barten, Manning; eight grandchildren, and three brothers: Gus, Arion, Julius, Harlan, and William, Sioux City.
