Death of Henry Burmeister

Henry Burmeister was born in Schleswig/Holstein, Germany, February 28, 1855, and departed this life at his late home in Avoca, November 7, 1919, aged 64 years, eight months, and nine days.

Mr. Burmeister was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of his birthplace and was also a member of the Lutheran Church of Avoca.

Thirty-eight years ago last April he was united in marriage to Miss Abel Leopold. This union was blessed with ten children of which one daughter, Christine, has passed away.

Shortly after his marriage, he and his bride emigrated to the United States and located at Walnut. He has lived in this vicinity up to the time of taking up his residence in Avoca.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his sorrowing widow, Mrs. Abel Burmeister, four sons, Herman, John, Louie, and Henry; five daughters, Mrs. Anna Schuemann, Mrs. AIvina Karstens, Mrs. Minnie Eggerss, and the Misses Alma and Helen. Eight grandchildren and other relatives with a host of friends mourn his early departure.

The funeral was held from the Lutheran Church at Avoca with interment in the Avoca Cemetery, November 10, 1919.

Note for historical purposes: Henry and his family lived in Manning, Iowa, during the early to mid-1890s.
It is also believed that Henry owned/operated the Clifton House, per the History of Manning 1898 history book.
