Hold Last Rites For H.J. Hagedorn

Heinrich John Hagedorn was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on December 20, 1852, and passed away at Rochester, Minnesota on May 5, 1934, where he had gone for treatments. After five days of close observation and examination, all that medical skill could do could not save his life and his spirit left the earth at the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 15 days.

Mr. Hagedorn was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Germany, where he grew to manhood. In 1874 he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Plockman who passed away in 1880. The following year he came to America, coming directly to Arcadia, Iowa, where he worked for various farmers until he started farming for himself.

In 1883 he was married to Miss Mary Mohr, who passed away in 1914, just after they had retired from the farm to Manning where he has since resided.

To this union 14 children were born, five of them having preceded him in death.

In 1915 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Anna Hinrichs, who, with the following children, survives him: Gustave, William and Otto, all of Manning; Rosa, Mrs. Prickett of Lake City, Iowa; Henry of Manning; Louis of Aspinwall; Herman of Pontiac, Michigan; John of Des Moines, and Mrs. Mary Kampen of Manning. A number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a brother, Charles Hagedorn of Manning also survive him.

He was a good, reliable citizen and neighbor, a kind parent and husband. He was always thrifty, a quiet man who never sought a public place or office, but worked hard at his own business. Through his industry he was able to secure enough of this world's goods to enable him to travel and aid in making loved ones comfortable and happy.

His long years of residence in and around Manning gave him a wide acquaintance, all of whom with respecting memories will miss him.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home with Reverend E.E. Zimmerman of Vail officiating. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Julius Wehrmann, Rudolph H. Kuhl, Herman J. Vogt, William Horman, Harry Reinholdt and Harry Hinz.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. P.H. Mohr and children and Julius Sewell of Burwell, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hagedorn and family of Pontiac, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. John Hagedorn and family of Des Moines; Mrs. Prickett of Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ralph and Mrs. Chris Arndt of Sac City; Mr. and Mrs. John Hollander and Mr. and Mrs. William Hollander of Manilla; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Miller of Denison.
