Final Services at Manning Church for Mrs. John Fonken

Funeral services for Mrs. Doretta Alma Fonken, 31, who died April 1, 1945, were held Thursday, April 5, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, with the Pastor Johann M. Ansorge officiating. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers were Marcellus Grundmeier, Herbert Frahm, Ray Vollstedt, Virtus Vollstedt, Vernon Rohe, and Julius Schroeder.

Mrs. Fonken was born Doretta Alma Koch, March 31, 1911, in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul and Marie (Riessen) Koch. She had lived at her farm home north of Manning for the past six years.

She was married March 5, 1939, to John Fonken at Grant Township Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband, her four-year-old son, Allan; her mother Mrs. Marie Koch; sisters: Malinda Koch, Ida Grove; Mrs. Hedwig Abbe, Schleswig; Mrs. Selma Frederick, Ida Grove; Mrs. Marjorie Germeroth, Beatrice, Nebraska; Mrs. Luella Robinson, Battle Creek, Iowa; and brothers: Pfc. Albrecht Koch, somewhere in Germany, Rudi Koch and Donald Koch, Ida Grove.

Her father, Paul Koch, died in 1941 and several brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at Manning and of the Homemakers Club. She received her education in the Lutheran Parochial School.
