Arthur Max, son of William and Alma Jansen Gruhn, was born January 21, 1910, in Audubon County, Iowa. Arthur attended rural schools in Carroll County near Manning. Following his schooling, he farmed with his father and brother in the Manning area and then near Irwin.
In 1942, Arthur was inducted in to the United States Army and served with the 40th
Engineers in Europe.
Arthur enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodworking and anything mechanical.
On January 21, 2000, Arthur died suddenly and unexpectedly on his 90th birthday at
Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning. Besides his parents, Arthur is preceded
in death by a brother Lester Gruhn and a sister Leona Dammann. |
