Frederick B. Stangl Writes Frederick Stangl Writes Sgt. Fred B. Stangl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stangl of Manning, who has been with the Medical Detachment for the past two years writes to tell us he is now in the Air Corps, headed for some place unknown. He wish to thank the Legion and Monitor for the paper which he always received and hopes it will follow him to his new station. |
The funeral liturgy will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
Mr. Stangl married Hazel Barbara (Cary) on November 3, 1949, in Ashland, Oregon, and they raised five children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara in 1969; son, Michael in 1982; granddaughter, Dawn (Stangl) Kasper in 2001; his parents; brothers, August and Leonard; and sisters, Florence, Alfreda, Rita, and Agatha.
Mr. Stangl was born as the fourth of seven children on June 29, 1918, in Butte, Nebraska, to Fred and Wilhelmina (Willenborg) Stangl.
He farmed and ranched in Nebraska and Iowa before enlisting in 1943 with the advent of World War II, serving in the medical branch of the U.S. Army Air Corps in London. He continued with active duty with the U.S. Air Force until his retirement in1970 as a CWO4 with a total of 26 years of service.
Duty stations during Mr. Stangl's military career included the dental clinics of Hamilton AFB (California), Wheelus AB (Libya), Ramstein AB (Germany), Amarillo AFB (Texas), and Lowry AFB (Colorado), before retiring at Sheppard AFB as supervising officer for the dental laboratory course at the School of Health Care Sciences.
Upon his retirement, he completed his B.S. degree in sociology and political science at Midwestern State University.
Casey married Dorothy (Arlene) Roberts in Wichita Falls in August 5, 1971, and together they vacationed extensively across the continental U.S., and to such destinations as Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, Bahamas, Jamaica, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, and Australia. An avid golfer, he played courses on most of these trips, and was a regular at the Sheppard AFB course well into his eighties.
Survivors include wife of 38 years, Arlene; sons, Frederick of Wichita Falls, Gregory of Austin, Timothy of Wichita Falls; daughter, Rita of Burleson; grandchildren, Frederick Stangl of Lubbock, Mandy Wright and Jessica Ramirez of Ventura, California, Bryan Stangl of Wichita Falls, Ashley Marshall of Burleson, Michael and Cary Stangl of Austin; and seven great-grandchildren.
