The crumpled newspapers and items that I wasn't able to unravel or scan.
On the bottom newspaper you can see the damage from paper eating insects such as silver fish.

It doesn't look like any professional process but it is something I've been doing for nearly 30 years when trying to scan old crumpled/folded/curled paper items.
If I wouldn't press them for a day or two, it would be next to impossible to place them under a scanner lid without them curling up and getting folded over as I close the lid.
It also helps with the annoying folds that still show up but not as bad.
I also place a heavy book on the scanner lid to provide as much pressure possible to flatten the images, but no matter how hard I try the folds will still show up in the scan and will need digital repair.
