Here are some pictures from Mildred Horbach's collection I scanned in 2004.

Gary Koon Children's Day June 14, 1944 - the Firemen's Hall in the background to the south across 5th Street
"Yes we did live across from the Firemen's Hall.
After that we moved to the house on Ann Stret that Mil & Joe moved out of when they built their new house in South Manning.
The Horbachs always had more money than my mod did since she was divorced from Bill Koon when I was only about 3 years old.
So life was always a struggle, but she did the best she could trying to raise the 3 of us by herself.
We lived with our grandpa Joe Mescher for a good time until I was about 13 or 14 and then we moved above the Virginia Cafe at 311 1/2 Main Street.
I graduated in 1955, Tom 1957, and Gary 1956.
My grandma died in the house that this picture was taken from."

By Shannon (Koon) Goeser

"Peter passed away December 10, 1996. We almost made it to our 40th anniversary
Oh my yes, that is my husband Peter Michael Goeser and myself. We were married June 1, 1957 and we were married in the new Catholic Church in Manning and the reception was in the old church. Pete was from Defiance, Iowa.
I was working in the Manning Café part time while I was going to school. The restaurant was owned by Mary Schurer and I was 15 years old. He had come in one night with some of his fellow friends and happened to stop in for coffee at the restaurant. It was love at first sight..:-)"

Shannon Faye Koon - April 1944
"My grandma (Adelaide Mescher) made that outfit and I loved those new shoes."
Shannon (Koon) Goeser

"Adelaide Mescher - Mrs. Joseph Mescher. It was Easter. We were very Catholic. I don't remember the name of the street but it was a couple houses down from Jack Horbach's house before they had the big house in south manning.
My grandmother came over on the orphan train.
The fritz family that lived in Arcadia took her in but don't know what her age was."

Frank Schiltz is the father of Ron and they eventually moved to Carroll. Mil Horbach said his dad worked for the Northwestern RR. They lived down by the railroad yard and after the 1947 flood they moved out of the floodplain to northeast Manning.
