April 6, 1939 Future Farmers To Stage 3 Skits
Shown above are several of the characters in the three short plays to be presented by members of the Vocational Agriculture group at the high school auditorium, tonight Thursday, April 6th.
All parts will be taken by boys. The plays selected are "His First Shave," "Be Home By Midnight" and "A Bachelor's Baby." Mr. William B. Campbell is assisted in directing the plays by Miss Gladys Bauman and Miss. Rosemary Gleason.
Short skits will be on the program between acts.
Funds derived from this entertainment will be used to defray transportation expenses for the vocational group to attend the state convention at Ames.

181 Attend Parent-Son FFA Banquet Program 1957
Manning's FFA chapter held its annual parent-son banquet last Wednesday in the high school auditorium. There were 181 members, parents and guests at the banquet held in honor of those who helped the chapter during the year.

Besides members and parents, honored guests included Supt. and Mrs. William Baley, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Euchner, Mr. and Mrs. John Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Standerwick, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Munster, William Robinson, Lois Kemper, Dwane Mickelson, Marian Pantel, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dethlefs, Louis Vennink, A.T. Irlbeck, Lois Vennink and Sally Wanninger.

Members were solicited for the vegetables, potatoes, salads, cake, buns and meat loaf, while ham, ice cream, coffee and milk was furnished by the chapter.

Served Family Style.
The meal was served family style with sisters of members as waitresses, namely, Dorothea Brus, Beverly Genzen, Shannon Mahnke, Darlene Genzen, Darlys Vollstedt, Anna Belle Vennink, Janell Hansen, Pat Irlbeck, Karen Rowedder, Mary Ann Hagedorn, Imogene Haberl, Dorothy Barton, Shirley Venteicher, Sylvia Vollstedt, Carol Beck and Georgia Brus.

Following the meal, Larry Witt extended a welcome and Leo Thielen responded for the guests. Officers conducted opening ceremonies and roll call was answered by members and their parents standing. Darryl Jahn recognized the honored guests.

Initiated Greenhands.
After roll call Glen Ahrendsen, Hans "Junior" Bonnesen, Dick Bowers, Allen Fonken, Wayne Brus, Billy Genzen, Larry Handlos, Bernard Joens, Ronald Mahnke, James Middendorf, Evans Musfeldt, Allen Nissen, Larry Rowedder, David Sextro, Vernon Sonksen, Stanley Spies, Clifford Stammer, and Ronald Vogl were initiated as greenhands.

Norman Vandehaar, chapter advisor, was awarded the honorary farmer degree. Leroy Venteicher read an article telling about the many acts of kindness, consideration and help Mr. Vandehaar had extended the chapter during the year. Emil Gram escorted Mr. Vandehaar to the president's station where he was presented a gold emblem of the honorary farmer.

Ray Thielen was awarded a $25 savings, bond for being selected the "Star Chapter Farmer." Twelve boys who had previously been "Chapter Farmer of the Month" competed, for the awards. Larry Popp made presentation of the bond and read accomplishments of the "star farmer."

Special Program.
After the meeting a special program was presented on the FFA creed. Eleven scenes were spotlighted, each representing a phase of the creed. Ray Thielen narrated the program. Larry Genzen sang a solo, "God of Our Father," accompanied by Darlene Genzen on the piano.

Mr. Vandehaar showed slides of various FFA activities and of projects of members, closing the evening by thanking parents and guests and all those who helped with the banquet.

Committees were: Food - Larry Genzen, Eugene Haberl, Roger Christensen and Larry Handlos. Table - Roger Barten, Gary Schroeder, Robert Moore and Larry Rowedder. Program - Ray Thielen, Lenus Mundt, Ronald Brus and Evans Musfeldt. Invitations - Darryl Jahn, Larry Klocke, Larry Hansen and Stanley Spies.

Local Student Received National Degree

Katie Rohe received the American Degree at the 80th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday, October 27, 2007. The American Degree is the highest degree awarded by the National FFA organization and recognizes Katie's demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, processing, and service programs. To be eligible, members must have earned and productively invested $7,500 through a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SEA) program.
Less than one in 156 FFA members advance through their local chapter and state FFA degree programs to earn this national degree. Katie Rohe, the daughter of Mary Rohe and the late Mike Rohe, is currently a senior at Iowa State University majoring in agricultural studies. She is a member of the IKM-Manning FFA chapter and her agricultural education instructor and FFA advisor is Mr. Jeff Mayes. Mrs. Larissa Rupnow was her previous FFA advisor.
Katie received a gold American Degree key and certificate in a blue leatherette frame to communicate the achievement, one of only 3,168 to be recognized in 2007. Case IH, The Farm Credit System, Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. and Syngenta, as a special project of the National FFA Foundation, sponsor the recognition program. The National FFA Convention is the nation's largest annual youth gathering, welcome students, parents and educators from all across the United States.
