The Parade


David Kusel video taped the Aspinwall Centennial events.
He is filming the parade from the top of a portable platform built on the pickup topper.

About 175 entries appeared in the 11 a.m. parade. Dick Goodrich of Audubon served as announcer and judging the entries were Elmer Mueller of Manning, Mrs. Jim Rasmussen of Manilla and Dick Sorensen of Irwin.

Winners were:
Overall Trophy - Templeton Saloon float sponsored by Templeton Centennial Committee. Mayor's Trophy - Hee Haw float sponsored by the Dedham Community. Judges' Trophy - Antique funeral coach owned by Ohde Funeral Home, horses owned and driven by Francis Shirbroun.

Antique Car Division - 1st, Bernard Klein, Templeton, 1928 Chevy Pickup; 2nd, C.N. Lappe, Vail; 3rd, George Ross, Gray.

Open Class Division - 1st, Farmstead miniature owned by Norbert Gross, Defiance; 2nd, Zeno Leinen Century Farm, Portsmouth; 3rd, Bavarian Garden, sponsored by Manning Businesses.

Antique Farm Machinery Division -1st, Dudley Heiman, Manilla, 1937 John Deere B tractor; 2nd, Alfred Weitl, Templeton; 3rd, Tator Gollobit, Manilla.

Horse Division - 1st, Louis Muhlbauer & Sons, Manilla, horse drawn stage coach, sponsored by Gruhn Hybrid Co.; 2nd, Manilla Rough Riders Saddle Club; 3rd, Wayne Davis, Glidden.

Marching Unit Division - 1st, Manning V.F.W.; 2nd, Emil Ewoldt Post #22, American Legion, Manning; 3rd, Wall Lake American Legion.

Band Division - 1st, Manning High School Band, Scott Keese, director; 2nd, Manilla High School Band, Randy Washburn, director; 3rd, Templeton Centennial Band.

Fire Dept. Division - 1st, Manning Fire Dept., 1928 LaFrance; 2nd, Halbur Fire Dept.; 3rd, Gray Fire Dept.
