The Centennial


The Aspinwalls from Madison, Wisconsin.
It was not determined if they are descendants of the Aspinwall the town was named after.

The committee published 500 copies of the book.

Those who helped on the Centennial Cookbook included, from left, Linda Frank, Vicki Frank, Mary Ann Brandt, Krista Witt, Iola Stammer, Darlyne Dahleen, Doris Witt, Donna Mahnke, Phylis Ehlers and Darlene Vollstedt. There were 1500 copies of the cookbook printed.

The Centennial Band was formed September 9, 1981, and included about 35 members. A separate Centennial Singers was later organized, and between the two groups, more than 30 performances were given throughout the year. Susan Schilling coordinated both groups, with Dorothy Kusel providing the piano background and Roy Schilling as the main accordion player.
Others in the group included, from left, Laurene Meeves, Al Olson, Rosie Brandt, Betty Schroeder, Chris Brandt, Ron Schilling, Susan Schilling, Alan Lorenzen, Audrey Phillips, Phylis Ehlers, Joyce and Gary Vinke, Mary Ann Brandt, Lucille Boell, Gene and Colene Lohrmann, Linda Frank, Lowell Schroeder, Elaine Hansen, Nancy Stammer, Mark Grundmeier, Darlene Vollstedt, Wallace Schroeder, and Louie Boell.

Clara Ehrichs, a longtime Aspinwall resident, made and donated an afghan which was won by Maxine Dammann, Manning, in a Centennial raffle. Clara, shown with her daughter, Dorothy Kusel, passed away September 4, 1982, just three weeks after the celebration.

Erma Wiese, who lived in or near Aspinwall her entire life, made and donated this afghan, which was won by her neighbor, Ruth Soll.
