Donald Musfeldt Graduates From Officers School

Donald Musfeldt of Manning, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Musfeldt has graduated from the Officers Candidate School in Seacoast Artillery at Fort Monroe, Virginia and has been commissioned second Lieutenant in the Army of the United States.

He completed three months of arduous drilling and study and received his commission from Brigadier General Lawrence B. Weeks Commandment of the Coast Artillery School. Lt. Musfeldt enlisted in the service and was stationed on the west coast for some time.
He was one of several in the camp selected to attend the officers training school. Don was in Manning last week visiting his parents.
He will go back to Ft. Monroe. Lt. Chester Hiatt of Miller, S. Dak., spent Saturday with Don.

Donald F. Musfeldt, son of Fred and Emma Ruge Musfeldt, was born in 1920. He entered the service in October, 1941, as a private, and was in the Field Artillery and Coast Artillery service. He served in the Pacific from July, 1942, until July, 1945, and was stationed on the is lands of Oahu, Hawaii, and Eniwetok, Guam. He was in the Guam campaign during 1944-45.

Don was discharged from the service as a Captain in January, 1946.
He then finished his college education at the University of Southern California, receiving a degree in Business Administration in June, 1948. He was employed at Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. for six years, the White Motor Co. for 19 years, and at Mack Trucks for 10 years, where he presently serves as director of Domestic Parts Marketing.

He has four sons, Ron, a Lieutenant Commander as Carrier Jet Pilot in the Navy, presently stationed on the Carrier Coral Sea; Greg, a Captain in the Army in the Intelligence Service, stationed in Hawaii for three years beginning in mid-1982; Dwight, employed at a department store in Billings, Montana; and Brian, who recently received his Masters Degree in finance and is now employed at Hallmark at Kansas City, Missouri. Each son is married, and Don has five grandchildren.

Don F. Musfeldt, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at an Arlington Hospital, Arlington, Texas. Funeral: 11 am. Saturday at Advent Lutheran Church, 3232 S. Cooper St., Arlington. Burial: 9 am. Monday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home-Bowen Road Chapel, 4216 S. Bowen Road, Arlington.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, VFW Post #8561, 3221 Howell, Arlington, Texas 76010, or a charity of choice.

Don F. Musfeldt was born June 15, 1920, in Manning, Iowa.

Upon completion of high school in Manning, he attended the University of Iowa for two years. Sustaining a baseball injury, he joined the football broadcast booth with former President Ronald Regan for two years.

Don served in the U.S. Army during World War II for four years as a captain, with combat tours of duty throughout the South Pacific.

Following his military service, Don earned his degree from the University of Southern California and also married Margaret Ellen Thoreson of Moorhead, Iowa, in 1945. To this union, they had four sons.

Don began his professional career with Firestone Tire Co. in Southern California. In 1954, he joined White Motor Truck, working up to vice president of parts and service.

In 1972, he joined Mack Trucks Inc. Also in 1972, Don married Trudy Roberts of Cleveland, Ohio.

In 1985, he retired from Mack as the director of parts marketing.

Don and Trudy have enjoyed an active retirement in Arlington, including world traveling and various church activities. Don enjoyed touring Germany in 2001, with the Arlington Sister Cities group. He also enjoyed his time with the German Society, bible studies and the Fun-for-Lunch bunch at Advent Lutheran Church.

Survivors: Wife, Trudy; sons, Ron and wife, Susan, Greg and wife, Diane, Dwight and Brian and wife, Net, all of Arlington. Don was very proud and fond of his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Beck of Omaha, Nebraska.
