It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Irlbeck at the age of 80. Ray passed away on September 24, 2019, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa.
Ray was born July 30, 1939, to Alphonse and Margaret (Underberg) Irlbeck. Ray grew up as a farm boy around the Templeton and Manning area. Ray served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for 2 years. He was honorably discharged in 1962. Upon his return to Iowa, he met and married Marian Grossman on April 20, 1963, at St. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. Six children were born to this union. Ray and Marian lived a long and happy life on their farm north of Aspinwall, where they raised hogs, corn and soybeans.
Ray was a long-time, active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning where he served as an usher and Eucharist Minister. He was a lifelong member of the VFW where he had served as a past Commander and member of the ceremonial team. Ray was also a member of the American Legion. He was an Iowa Township Trustee for many years. After farming for almost 50 years, he also served as a director on the WIPCO Board.
Ray enjoyed drinking coffee and chatting with others from around town. He always had a hard candy in his pocket to charm a smile from both youngsters and adults. He never said no when a neighbor or friend needed help. He was always quick to put himself second when he saw a need. In his spare time, Ray enjoyed playing Euchre, driving his John Deere B tractor, and spending time with his grandchildren. Most importantly, he was a devoted and loving husband and father to his family.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; Parents in law Lawrence and Eva Grossman; Siblings: Mary Helen Irlbeck in infancy; James Irlbeck, John (Barb) Irlbeck, Mary Ann (Frank) "Boots" Irlmeier; Mary Shanks; Janet Mosman; Darol (Louise) Grossman; and Dorene (Larry) Benson.
