JOSEPH BRANDT
Joseph John Brandt, son of Katharina and Joseph Brandt, Sr., now both deceased, was born March 17, 1934. He graduated from the Aspinwall Community School in 1948.

In October of 1956 he entered the service and took his basic training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.
He served 16 months with the U.S. Army 8224 Military Police Detachment, Inchon, Korea, and was discharged in July, 1958, with a rank of SP-4. He has since then farmed near Aspinwall.

Joseph John Jr., son of Joseph Sr. and Katharina (Mueller) Brandt, was born March 17, 1934, on the family farm in Crawford County, west of Manning, Iowa. He attended rural school through the eighth grade. On October 8, 1956, Joe entered the United States Army. He spent most of his enlistment in Korea as a supply clerk in the Military Police Division. He was honorably discharged in July of 1958 with the rank of Sergeant. Joe returned to Iowa and started farming with his family. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Manning. While farming the rest of his life, he also served on the Board of Directors of the Aspinwall Co-op and the Five Mile House.

Joe died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on the family farm near Aspinwall on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 23 days.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brother Engelbert Brandt; sisters Gertrude (Erwin) Gehling, Margaret (Lawrence) Tranter and Rosalea Brandt; and brother in law Mark Esser.

Joe is survived by his sisters Sophia Esser of Woodbine, and Catherine (Walter) Bissen of Harlan; brother Christian (Mary Ann) Brandt of Aspinwall; sister-in-law Mary Ann Brandt of Manilla; special friend Bea Akers of Manilla and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
