Manning Youth Dies In Head-on Collision
Manning Monitor
May 26, 1983

A head-on collision just west of Manning on High-way 141 claimed the life of Cory Struve, 16, son of Mr. & Mrs. Glen Struve of Manning, early Monday morning.

Struve was killed instantly when his eastbound car collided with a westbound car driven by Lyle Kevin Christensen, 19, of Manilla. Christensen was taken to Manning General Hospital and transferred to St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. He underwent surgery Monday for a fractured hip and was expected to be taken out of intensive care Tuesday when, according to a hospital spokesman, was listed in satisfactory condition. Additional injuries include superficial cuts and abrasions.

Manning police, fire and ambulance were sent to the accident scene at 12:19 a.m., May 23. It was necessary for firemen to use the "Jaws of Life" to gain entry to both vehicles. The Carroll County Sheriff's Department and Iowa Highway Patrol were also called. No charges were filed by State Patrolman Ed Swain, handling the investigation. Swain's report, now complete, stated the vehicles collided in the center of the highway.

A Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established in memory of Cory at the First National Bank at Manning. Anyone wishing to designate memorials to this fund may do so at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning or by contacting the bank.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at Zion Lutheran Church. A complete obituary can be found on page 5.
