Mass for the Burial for Alphonse John Nepple of Carroll will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.

Mr. Nepple, 90, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, following a long illness.

Father Timothy Schott will celebrate the Mass, and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. Thursday, where there will be a rosary recited at 3, Christian wake service by the parish at 7 and another rosary recited at 8:30.

Gift bearers will be Joan, Dani and Jeni Obman and Anna Daniel. Mass servers will be Ben Irlbeck, Steven Irlbeck, and Carl Meyer. Eucharistic ministers will be Rosie Obman, Ruth Stephenson, Al and Mary Daniel and Madonna Meyer. Pianist will be Marci Anderson and cantors will be Craig Goecke and Lisa Nepple. Lector will be Joe Nepple.

Casket Bearers will be grandsons Ricky Stephenson, Mark Nepple, Brett Nepple, Kelly Meyer, John McCormick, Robby Stephenson, Chris Nepple and Eric Daniel. The rest of the grandchildren will form an honor guard at the church.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make a contribution to a memorial fund in memory of Mr. Nepple for the St. Anthony Nursing Home. Memorials may be left at the church or the funeral home.

A son of Otto and Catherine (Banscher) Nepple, he was born Jan. 27, 1912, at Roselle. As a young boy he attended school at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Templeton and then worked on the family farm near Templeton.

The Nepples, farmed between Dedham and Templeton for five years and then farmed 17 years northeast of Manning before moving to Carroll. Mr. Nepple then worked for Andrews Roofing in Carroll and did trucking for Pound Construction until 1985.

He lived all his life in the Carroll and Greene County areas.

He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and helping anyone whenever and wherever needed.

Survivors include 13 children, Chuck Nepple and his wife, Pat, of Sioux City, Rosie Obman of Carroll, Lloyd Nepple of Little Rock, Ark., Marv Nepple and his wife, Jane, of Westside, Ruth Stephenson of Mobile, Ala., Alvin Nepple and his wife, Karen, of Glidden, Dave Nepple and his wife, Joan, of Lohrville, Mary Daniel and her husband, Al, of Carroll, Mary McCormick and her husband, Gary, of Churdan, Madonna Meyer and her husband, Larry, of Glidden, Eugene Nepple and his wife, Deb, of Carroll, Joan Obman and her husband, Butch, of Breda, and Mary Lou Irlbeck and her husband, Mark, of Des Moines; a former daughter-in-law, Janis Nepple, of Spalding, Neb.; a former son-in-law, Bob Stephenson, of Scranton; 44 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 12 step greatgrandchildren; five step great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Colette Schiefen of LeMars; and several sisters and brothers-in-law, Cecelia Nepple of Vail, Sophia Nepple of Carroll, Ervin and Rita Vonnahme of Arcadia, Cecelia Vonnahme of Mt. Carmel, Delores Vonnahme of Mt. Carmel, Clarence and Caroline Vonnahme of Arcadia and Theresa and Paul Kasperbauer of Templeton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rita in 1989; two daughters, Anna Marie and Jean Marie, in infancy; parents-in-law, Henry and Sophia Odendahl Vonnahme; a daughter-in-law, Rita (Grund) Nepple; a son-in-law, Don Obman; a step grandson, Rod Obman; four brothers, Lawrence, Ed, Herbert and Norbert; two sisters, Mary and Magdella; and several sisters- and brothers-inlaw, Ted Schiefen, Lawrence Nepple, Gertrude and Art Wieland, Margaret and Norbert Wieland, Carl Vonnahme, Fred and Bertha Vonnahme, Ray Vonnahme and Ferdinand Vonnahme.
