Wynona "Nonie" Hill

Thursday, May 22, 2008 After 5:00 PMWynona "Nonie", daughter of Palmer and Mabel (Mullinger) Hansen was born January 26, 1922, on the family farm between Hamlin and Exira, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Audubon High School in 1939. Nonie completed normal training in Storm Lake and returned to teach in the rural school she had attended.
On April 16, 1944, Nonie was united in marriage with Wilbur Hill at the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. Three children were born to this union. Nonie and Wilbur made their home northeast of Manning. In 1961 they purchased a farm 1.5 miles west of Manning, moving there in 1965. Nonie was primarily a homemaker and also wrote local news for the Manning Monitor and sold eggs from her laying hens to local cafes. She was a member of the Manning First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, and Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron. She enjoyed Homemakers Club and the Happy Hour Club for many years. Nonie was an excellent cook and baker, making fruit pies from her own fruit trees. She also enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, socializing, fishing, bowling, and traveling.
In 2002 Nonie became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home and later moved to the Manilla Manor. On May 19, 2008, Nonie died there at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 23 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wilbur Hill in 2005; great-grandson John Edward Faust, Jr.; brothers Russell Hansen and Donald Hansen and a brother and sister in infancy.
Nonie is survived by her children: Sheryl and husband Lenny Carstens of Council Bluffs; Ron Hill of Omaha and Mike Hill and wife Beth of Manning; grandchildren: Jill and husband John Faust of Council Bluffs; Laura Hill of Ankeny and Jessica Hill of Manning; great-grandchildren: Catie, Joey and Caroline Faust of Council Bluffs; siblings: Elaine and husband Bob Cornwell of Des Moines; Betty Krantz of Des Moines; Palmer Dale Hansen and wife Bonnie of Des Moines; Nita and husband Leon Koenen of Shell Beach, CA and Linda and husband Andy Gancy of St. Peters, MO; sisters-in-law Kathleen Hansen of Des Moines; Lois Hill of Manning and Viola Hill of Schleswig; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
